Senior Portrait Prep Guide

Let’s Get Ready!

What to wear for your Senior Session

  • Considerations:

    • Vary your looks if you are planning outfit changes

    • Mix textures, patterns, and accessories with each outfit

    • Let Jess know if you have props you plan on incorporating into your session

  • More general tips on styling can be found in this blog post

  • Looking for some more hands-on styling help? Here are a few personal & professional recommendations locally.

Your Planning Timeline

  • 6-8 weeks before the session: If you’d like to get some 1-on-1 styling help for your photoshoot schedule this now! Two stylists that I have personally worked with both personally and professionally are @vivienreed_ and @styledbywi.

  • 4-6 weeks before the session: Pick out and order outfits. Don’t forget about footwear! When they arrive, try them on including undergarments! If you are planning any secondary services like styling, hair, or make up reach out and schedule ASAP.

  • 1-2 weeks before the session: Make sure all clothing items have arrived & fit. Now is a great time to also consider and decide upon accessories for each outfit.

  • Week of the session: Make sure all outfits & undergarments are washed & set aside. Don’t forget shoes & accessories!

Check email and complete invoice for final payment. If you’d like to pay your final invoice with cash or check, you may bring it to the session.

  • Session day: Whatever time you plan on getting ready, bump that up by 10-15 minutes!

Things you’ll want to remove for your session:

    • Smart watches & hair ties from wrists

    • Cell phone, wallets & key from pockets

After your session

All the best images will be edited in a private online gallery and emailed to you in no more than 3 weeks via a private online gallery.

Archival prints & high quality print products may be ordered directly through your gallery. Jess is happy to consult with you regarding albums, canvas, and other print products!
