Studio Experience
A simple, comfortable experience designed to keep the focus on you and the people you love.
I work with a selection of beautiful studio spaces throughout the Rochester area, allowing us to choose the space that best fits the look and feel you envision for your session.
Studio sessions are especially well suited for maternity and newborn photos, but with the right space, family sessions can be just as relaxed, playful, and full of connection.
And one of the best parts? We don’t have to worry about Rochester’s finicky weather!
Your Studio Session
A studio session doesn’t have to mean stiff poses against a plain backdrop. The right studio gives us a comfortable space to slow down, focus on connection, and create photographs that still feel like you.
I’ll help you choose a studio that feels right for what you’re envisioning, then gently guide you once we’re there—leaving plenty of room for movement, connection, and simply being together.

“Nothing but good things to say about our experience! Jess was patient and knew how to work with our daughter to get great pics, she was very friendly and personable, and had excellent communication through the whole process. We would not hesitate to use Jess Palmer Photography in the future!”

My kids aren’t perfect, and I don’t expect yours to be either!
As a former educator, I’m pretty good at letting kids warm up, following their energy, and using play, prompts, and movement to keep things fun and relaxed.
Let me worry about what everyone is doing. Your job is simply to enjoy spending time with your favorite people.
-
Well, they might…and bribery isn’t just for children!
Let them know ahead of time that the session will be relaxed and low-pressure. The focus isn’t on posing perfectly or smiling at the camera for 45 minutes. I’ll give your family plenty to do so you can focus on being together while I gently guide you along the way.
One thing I don’t recommend? Surprising your partner with family photos the day of the session. Give them a heads-up and let them have some say in what they wear. Being mentally prepared and comfortable in their clothes can go a long way toward helping them relax.
And usually, once the session gets going, they realize it’s a lot easier than they expected.

If someone in your family is sick, please reach out as soon as possible. We’ll decide together whether it makes sense to move forward or reschedule.
Please note: depending on the nature of your session, rescheduling may require a change in studio or an adjustment of your session start time.

You don't have to figure that out on your own! After you book, I'll send you information about the studio spaces I work with and help you choose one based on the type of session you're planning, the look and feel you love, and any specific needs your family has.
-
After booking, I'll share more information about the available spaces and help you choose the one that best fits your session. Some of the studios I regularly work with include:
Studio at the Wilder
Bloom Studio
Gallery 48
For something a little different, we can also consider nontraditional studio spaces such as:
The Garden House
Play-a-Latte

I recommend coordinating outfits around a color palette and incorporating a mix of textures, subtle patterns, and accessories.
Have everyone try on their outfit at least once before session day to make sure everything fits comfortably and they feel good in what they’re wearing.
Need a little more help pulling everything together? I walk you through the process in my blog post, What to Wear for Your Family Photoshoot.
